CLOSE TO TANGO’S BORDER
Is it possible to say something new about tango? Definitely yes.
We champion this tango which advances itself into the future without forgetting its past.
The all-woman Trio Contempo sprang from the contact of three different cultures: Italian, Argentinean and French. The Trio is acclaimed for its sensibility and capacity to draw out of three instruments a sound which sometimes recalls the fullness of an orchestra.
Three women, the guitarist Roberta Roman from Milano, the bandoneonist Marisa Mercadé from Buenos Aires and the cellist Isabella Sajot from Lyon, recreate a universe stretching from the historic tradition of Carlos Gardel and Matos Rodriguez to the Nuevo tango of Astor Piazzolla, from the rural sincerity of the popular origins of Atahualpa Yupanqui to the poignant tenderness of Alfonsina y el Mar by Ariel Ramirez.
Their repertoire moves to contemporary composers such as Rossano Pinelli, Simone Iannarelli, Gilbert Clamens, Atanas Ourkouzounov, Leonardo Sanchez, and Jurgen Schwenkglenks.
The Trio Contempo plays very original and refined melodies, rhythms and harmonies. Its performance weaves together irony and sensuality, soberness and sentimental abandon, energy and subtlety.
